• Common and temporary side effects

Swelling and redness
•Almost every patient will experience mild to moderate swelling after the injection, caused by the body’s natural reaction to the injected substance and the microscopic injury caused to the skin and tissues.
•Swelling will usually peak within 24–48 hours and will begin to gradually decrease.
•Swelling can be reduced by using local cooling (cold compresses) and avoiding exposure to high heat (such as a sauna).

Hematoma
•Slight damage to small blood vessels may occur during the injection, which will cause subcutaneous hemorrhages.
•Breathing usually resolves within a few days, but its absorption can be accelerated with ointments such as Arnica or Traumeel.

Local tenderness or pain
•Some patients may feel tenderness or mild pain in the injected area, especially in the first 24 hours after treatment.
•This pain is due to local nerve irritation and tissue sensitivity to the injection process.
•This can usually be relieved with mild pain relievers such as acetaminophen (not aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – NSAIDs, which can worsen bruising).

• Less common but significant risks

Allergic reactions to fillers
•It is very rare, but there is a possibility of an allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid or other substances such as calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse) or poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra).
•Signs of an allergic reaction include unusual swelling, severe redness, itching or difficulty breathing.
•In severe cases, immediate medical attention should be sought, and in the case of hyaluronic acid, dissolution with hyaluronidase may be necessary.

Prolonged inflammatory response (Granuloma Formation)
•Sometimes, the body recognizes the foreign material and creates a chronic inflammatory response around it in the form of granulomas – hard subcutaneous lumps.
•Granulomas usually appear as a late reaction, weeks to months after the injection, and require treatment with steroids or dissolution.

Asymmetry or unnatural result
•In some cases, the filler is not distributed evenly, which can cause an asymmetric or exaggerated appearance.
•Sometimes, the material “migrates” from the injected site and creates lumps or distortions in the facial structure.
•Solution: The problem can be corrected with gentle massage, dissolution, or correction by another injection of a suitable material.
